Grooming basics that make outfits look better
By sneakersInn team · Updated
Good grooming makes any outfit look better, and the basics are simple: a haircut every two to three weeks, a shaped beard or a clean shave, a daily face wash and moisturiser, sunscreen in strong sun, clean and short nails, and fresh breath. Ten minutes a day does more for how you look than a new shirt.
| Daily | Weekly | Every 2 to 3 weeks |

| Moisturise | Exfoliate face gently | Beard shape-up |

How do I care for skin in Accra?
Heat, sweat and harmattan dryness all affect skin. Wash with a gentle cleanser, use a light moisturiser, and wear sunscreen for long days outdoors; dark skin still benefits from sun protection. In harmattan, use a richer moisturiser and lip balm. See harmattan style.
How do I prevent razor bumps?
Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae) are common when curly hair grows back into the skin after shaving. Shaving with the grain, using a sharp single blade or clippers, avoiding stretching the skin and not shaving too close all help. Persistent bumps are worth discussing with a pharmacist or dermatologist (American Academy of Dermatology).
How should I keep a beard?
Shape the neckline and cheek lines regularly, wash and condition it, and keep the length even. A shaped beard looks intentional; an untrimmed one looks neglected.
What about hands and nails?
Short, clean nails and moisturised hands matter when you shake hands. Push back cuticles gently after a shower.
What about fragrance?
Light and applied sparingly. See fragrance basics for men in hot weather.
